Department of Physics
The Department of Physics at PSMO College was established in the same year of establishment of the college in 1968 with Pre Degree programs. Ten years later in 1978, an undergraduate program, BSc Physics was started at the department. The MSc Physics program was started in the year 1999 which was the first PG course in physics in a college in the district. Prof. A K Mohammed was the Head of the Department from 1968 to 2000. Prof K Muhammed (2000-2011), Prof. VC Suresh(2011-2013), Prof. AK Abdul Gafoor (2013-14), Prof. V Abdussamad (2014-15), Prof. CT Aysha Umma (2015-17), Prof KM Abdul Majeed (2017-19) have served as Heads of the department. Former faculty members Prof. K Ummusubaida (Late), Prof. Haneefa, Dr Abdul Gafoor, Dr Shabna R and Dr Hasna K together with much non-teaching staff have served at the department in these years. Hundreds of students have passed out from the Department and serving in many government and private organizations across the world. Many of the Alumni are doing postgraduate programs and research in various premier institutes in and out of the country.
Mr. Basim MB has been serving as the Head of the department since 2021. Eight teaching faculties are presently working in the Department of Physics. MSc Physics program is offered with ‘Radiation Physics’, ‘Microprocessors’, and ‘Laser systems, Optical Fibers and Applications’ as elective courses. BSc Physics program in the department comprises Physics core courses with Mathematics and Chemistry as complementary courses. The department also offers various state of the art Certificate courses to the students and public.
The faculties of this department have published many research articles in National and International journals. Dr Abdul Kareem. T has filed four patents and Dr Rashid. T.P has filed one patent from this department. The department also provides technical support to the startup companies like MYCROWB Your Eco Friend LLP and the ‘PSMOC SAVE ‘E’ ELECTRONICS LLP’. Students of this department have published research articles during their UG course and many students have presented their work at various national conferences. This department gives all support to students for their research work and innovation and entrepreneurship activities.
