About the Department
The Department of Commerce was started in 1968 with a Pre-degree Commerce Programme. The Department was upgraded in 1972 as Degree Department with B.Com Finance and as Post Graduate Department with M.com Finance in 1981. The Department was approved as Research Centre in 2013. The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Programme commenced in 2014 with a specialization in finance and the Department was renamed as Department of Commerce and Management Studies.
It is the college’s largest department in terms of the number of students and programmes offered. The department has a glorious record of having 90% faculties with PhD. The Research Centre presently runs with 8 Research Guides and 26 Research Scholars. Department has already produced 18 PhDs in topics addressing the various socio-economic issues affecting the business directly and indirectly. The department has an International Innovation Patent titled “An innovative method for increasing value of environment-friendly products”. Two designed patents in food packages are also registered. During the last 5 years, 51 students from the department qualified for UGC-NET including 12 JRF and 1 NFOBC, 6 UG students and 10 PG students who bagged top positions in the University examinations. Department offers Certificate Courses in Tally, Income tax e-filing, Zoho Finance Suite, Excel and Data Analysis. Department also provides placement training and coaching classes for NET/JRF and other competitive exams. Department offers placement in well-reputed firms to PG students having an excellent academic background, communication skills and language proficiency. Making the students fit for the family, society and industry is the motto of the department.
